Mabel's Heir

Mabel Strickland chose Robert Hornyold-Strickland, her great nephew, to be her sole and universal heir in 1975.

Robert Hornyold-Strickland is Chartered Accountant, having qualified with KPMG in the UK and has served on the board of many companies, both in the UK, France and Malta. He is now retired from business and is a keen artist and sculptor, taking up his passion for sculpture later on in life, where he studied initially at the Heatherley School of Art in Chelsea. Now a leading portrait sculptor his private commissions.

He works in a variety of media but principally in bronze and undertakes private and corporate commissions where he is known for his portrait busts, figurative and ornamental sculptures. Most of his works are unique pieces.

Robert grew up in his family home - Sizergh Castle, in the UK where his family have lived continuously for the last 800 years.

Robert became a Maltese citizen in 2013, so now has dual nationality; he now lives at Mabel Strickland's family home, Villa Parisio in Lija with his wife and family.

Robert is the great grandson of Lord Strickland, GCMG, Prime Minister of Malta between the wars (1927-1932)and a great-nephew of The Hon Mabel Strickland, O.B.E.

Lord Strickland was also Governor of the Leeward Islands, and then Tasmania, Western Australia and New South Wales (between 1902 and 1917 when he returned to Malta). He was also an MP for Lancaster in England in the 1920s.
